Our visit to Italy, November 2007

     

In search of my roots, I especially planned to visit the City of Rubano, and Roccadaspide to see if I still had family in Italy. So, I packed up my wife and our four year old too, and we flew into Milano and rented a car for three weeks of an exciting adventure in Italy. Roccadaspide is where my great-grandfather was from. While there, I met my cousin Antonette who I'd never met before.

Roccadaspide (ZIP code 84069) belongs to the province of Salerno and is 59 kilometers far from Salerno, that is the Chief Town of the homonymous province.

Roccadaspide has a population of 7,461 inhabitants (Rocchesi) and a surface of 64.3 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 116.03 inhabitants per square kilometer. It rises 354 meters above the sea level.

Population: The municipality of Roccadaspide had a population of 7,519 inhabitants accordingly to the results of the national census made in 1991. After the national census made in 2001 the population was 7,461 inhabitants, thus showing during the years 1991 - 2001 a percentile variation of -0.77% inhabitants.

The inhabitants are distributed in 2,739 families with an average of 2.72 people per family.

The place: The territory of the municipality lies between 39 and 1.201 meters above sea level.

The altitude span is thus 1,162 meters.

Work and workers: There are 156 industrial firms employing 412 people that are the 21.95% of the total of the workers. There are 206 service firms employing 309 people that are the 16.46% of the total of the workers. There are also 149 firms employing 590 people that are the 31.43% of the total of the workers. There are also 22 administrative offices employing 566 workers that are the 30.15% of the total of the workers.

There is a total of 1,877 workers, that are the 25.16% of the inhabitants of the municipality.
