This was our attempt to visit Pompeii - despite the nasty weather. Most of the
pictures are taken
from the car because of the rain. We may try to go back tomorrow if the weather
is better.

This, by the way, it typical traffic. There are few, if any, traffic lights
here and some of them don't
work. So, when you get to an intersection, you inch in until the other guy can't
go, and then you go!
Charlene was afraid to drive. I don't blame her, I kept my eyes closed the whole
time!! :)

The rain didn't stop this lady from drying her clothes. She just covered them
with a tarp while
they were on the line!!

Charlene always has to have pictures of power lines!!

Here's the turn-off to Pompeii West

Here we go - entering the city of Pompeii. Lots of rain now so I took two
pictures because of
all the rain drops on the windshield. Hopefully one of them will come out ok??

In Italy, every city has it's Duomo or church. I was surprised at how
elaborate this little city's
church was.

Some of the stuff on the columns - I have no idea what it says! I think it's all in Latin.

The Main Entrance...

Looking from the steps of the church out into the courtyard out front. I wish
it was a better day
so you could see the mountains better.

Check out the inside of this church. It's absolutely gorgeous!! Again -
no flash so I had to slow
the shutter way down to get these shots. It was very dark inside as was most
churches we
visited. Usually lit only by dim electric lights but mostly candles. The lights
in this picture were
barely lit up but look very bright because of the long exposure times.

Walking back to the car (rain slowed so we could walk with an umbrella).

Looking down the main street of Pompeii - more mountains in the background
that you can
see with the telephoto lens that Alex let me borrow.

In Italy, a bar is where you go to get cappuccino and a pastry. More
like a snack bar.

This is where we ate lunch. I tried to use the telephoto to get a picture of
the lady who served
us but it came pretty blurry. JP said she looks just like Noni.

Here's the shot without the telephoto.

Charlene said she wants' these curtains for our house!

Another Pompeii street, another bar.

Nice looking hotel. We're going to look into staying there - on the next
trip!!

And, of course, every town has a MacDonald's. Check it out, burger & fries for
only a buck!! cheapest we've seen on the entire trip!!

Siamo Qui means, "you're here!"

A Big Mac meal here is called a "McMenu". Say it
just like that and you're ok. Don't ask for anything else.
Trust me, you'll be surprised with what you end up with if you don't!!

We couldn't see the ruins because of the rain. :(

So, we decided to just drive - hopefully out of the rain? And we headed
to Sorrento. You know
the song, "In the story of Sorrento...." Very romantic - really needed to
loose the kid. (just kidding)

Finally getting close to Sorrento - we're on the coast - you can see the
water in this picture. But
the weather is not cooperating, and is actually getting worse. Rain and very
strong winds.

We pulled over so I could try to get some pictures since the rain slowed down
to a mist. We're
about 300 feet above these rocks - look at the breakers. That's probably 10 foot
waves down
there.

There's my honey waiting for me in the car - she didn't want to get blown
away!!

See the palm tree bending in the wind?

Ok, back on the road again. Check out the sheer cliffs ahead. The picture
doesn't do them
justice at all.

At this point we had to stop taking pictures - for one, it was getting too
dark, and also because
the rain started picking up again. But that didn't stop us, we pushed ahead an
made it to the
center of town, looked at what we could and headed back home. (sigh!!)
